In many homes, (yours likely included), the entryway is bare, uninspired, and simply treated as a transition point from the front door to your main space........From the moment a guest stands at your front door and rings your doorbell, is an opportunity to begin to tell your story.

You’re likely thinking….it’s just an entryway or foyer. It’s not a big deal. Well, imagine if you walked into the hotel or resort you were staying in for the weekend, and the foyer/entryway was completely bare. Imagine how hollow, and unwelcoming that would feel……Now imagine YOUR entryway.

There are little details you should consider when enhancing the presentation of your entryway. You need a base to ground your space. Consider an accent wall, area rug or runner, entryway table, seating, wall art, hanging or floor mirrors, live or faux plants, gallery wall, lighting, storage, etc.

Rugs are an easy way to implement color, patterns, and textures. While benches and Settees (if you have the space) are functional for additional seating and practicality. However, the most popular of all entryway and foyer elements is the |entryway table|.

There are endless options of entryway tables. Visualize a table style and shape that fits your taste and complements the aesthetic of your home.

TIP: Rectangular tables are best along walls, while if desired, circular tables are best in the center of the foyer.

When decorating your table, consider items that have special meaning to you, or possess functionality. The goal is to create a tastefully curated space, not recreate a Pinterest photo.

TIP: Implements sparks of your personality.

  • Consider a piece of art, mirror, or photo(s) as a focal point on/above your table.

  • Consider the functionality of a bowl or tray to drop keys and small items.

  • Stone or metal elements, vases, planters, and other statues or figurines you may like to display.

  • Items of varying heights. Books can also be incorporated in this manner.

  • Scented candle for ease of use, and that inviting scent as your guests enter your home.

  • Consider table lamps, task lamps, gallery lights, or wall sconces for added elegance, and mood.

Arguably more important than items to have, are things to AVOID while designing your entryway. AVOID over crowding your entryway table, and your entryway. AVOID purchasing items that are not functional for you, simply to fill your space. AVOID incorporating colors that are vastly different from that utilized in your main spaces.

Your entryway is often the first area anyone entering into your home encounters. It’s the first glimpse into your design style….what is to come in the rest of your home…and dare I say, who you are. Use the tips above to transform your entryway from obscure to curated.
